What is Discord?
Discord is a free internet service that facilitates building of communities. Jeff Heidman created a Discord server exclusively for Newport Yacht Club members and you can join the server by clicking the link at the bottom of this page. You can post messages and images as well as communicate with voice and/or video. Access Discord with a web browser, and/or with a desktop computer app or mobile app.
Why use Discord?
The intent is that it will be used for communication between club members to promote interactions. Its a place where members can talk to each other at their convenience. Post questions, comments, pictures, or anything else that you’d like to share with the club. Need crew or are available to crew for racing? Have a question about launching or docking your boat? Wondering who you should talk to about a particular need or concern? Just want to chat with other club members about sailing? Discord is a tool that will bring together our members in their shared passion of sailing at Newport Yacht Club!
How do I start using Discord?
You will need to create a free user account on Discord to join our server. You can just use the web browser interface to get started, but if you’d like to get notifications about new posts or private messages to you, it is recommended that you install either the mobile or desktop app. Discord does not send advertisements to your email address that you entered when you registered – no spam!
